Thursday is trash day in our neighborhood. Every Thursday Finn and I have this discussion on our walks. He wants to sniff and pee on the trash cans, and I won't let him.
'Why can't I do that?'
'Because trashcans have to be picked up by their owners and the trash guys, and dog pee on them is disgusting. Polite neighbors do not allow that.'
'But all the OTHER dogs get to pee on the trash cans!'
'I don't care, you are not. If all the other dogs jumped off a cliff, would you jump off too?'
'But...it smells so interesting!'
'No!'
Then we walk to the next yard and have the discussion all over again.
It's like I have another kid, that won't grow up.

Oh, that's adorable. Exactly what my mother used to say when I asked to do something she didn't approve of. Also, when I'd say "All my friends are doing it!" she'd say "Name them."
ReplyDeleteAt least he only wants to sniff and pee on the cans-Mr. Big looks to find any "tidbits" that may have fallen out of the bags! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteLisa & Mr. Big :)
Kathy, I also used to get "'Everyone else' isn't your mother". Finn is convinced one day I will change my mind.
ReplyDeleteLisa, the only thing Finn has scarfed up was a pop tart a neighbor kids tossed out of the car window. Not that he wouldn't munch something, but he tends to sniff-sniff-sniff-then decide it might be tasty, gives me time to stop him. The pop tart was immediate, he knew what that was.
